These tiny feet are usually hand-painted in Bengali homes during Lokkhi Pujo (Lakshmi Puja), where the lady of the house uses rice flour (mixed with water) and etches out the Goddess’ feet starting from the entrance of the house to where the Puja is being performed. Symbolically welcoming good fortune and luck for the family. Many traditional Bengali families also worship the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi on Thursdays, with an offering of a small bunch of kalā (bananas) and peda or mukun dana.
But you need not wait for Lakshmi Puja or Krishna Janmashtami to paint a pebble or two with tiny little feet.
