Color my Walls "Gerua"

I am back from India. With suitcaseful of home decor stuff, homemade gond laddus, ghagra-cholis stitched by the best Masterji in town, and songs of Arijit Singh in my heart. The laddus have been eaten, LMN will have to wait till Diwali to wear the ghagra-choli, Arijit’s songs play on surround sound all day at home, and in my ears when I am commuting/ at work.
My home smells of Sugandhi dhoop from Patna. Those once bare walls look great with the new Madhubanis. The tiya pakhis are waiting to come to life and scream out “Mitthoo” all together!
And you my dear friends get a glimpse of my desi home all over again…
And see these bland walls in the master bedroom? I now do plan to paint them Gerua!

Garage Sale Purchase

003

So we were going downtown when I saw this garage sale in the neighbourhood.

004

I screamed: S-T-O-P-T-H-E-C-A-R!!! The husband screeched our black beauty to a halt.

005

And there I was greedily eyeing everything from the junk called Garrrrrage Sale in front of this oldish house.

006

And I spotted these!

007

008

Wooden masks from Mexico lying on the dusty porch. Blasphemous.

009

And guess how much I paid for them?! Five bucks each. Well, it was a great deal considering I did not even have to use my charm!

Rediscovering Apartment 408

Sunlight is becoming a rare sight these days in TO. Sub zero temperatures are looming large o’er my little head. I am like a little plant, I perk up when I have sunshine on my shoulders. As an easy alternative, I now derive my cheer from lights, candles and fixtures in my home which are not tragically expensive. And in the process of rediscovering my home this winter, I am also organizing clutter to make streamlined displays.

buddhaSee the halo around the Buddha? Look closely and you will see just a lamp.

This little tea light in the aromizer is for warmth from a close range.

IMG_0724Even the walls cried out loud for some attention and look what they got! This curved henna wall sconce. It makes for great mood lighting on my wall of paintings and photographs. It was hand made by artisans of Marrakech, Morocco. I was told its made of stretched goat skin, natural vegetable dyes and the design you see on this sconce is made from henna. IMG_0679 Who is afraid of winter now! I have enough reasons to keep my home warm and toasty.
